Man uses iPad with simulation-based training

Attensi invests globally and has therefore protected the trademark internationally

— We want to become a global player in simulation-based training, and therefore to protect the brand internationally.

Attensi is a leading supplier of simulation-based training programs. They develop the Attensi Technology Platform, which is used both by customers and partners to tailor their own games and simulations that are used for training purposes. They have delivered over 500 simulations to Norwegian and international business in the past 8 years.

They have trademark registered the name Attensi in Norway, the EU and are in the process in the USA. They do not have design registration yet, but are assessing it on an ongoing basis.

External assistance

Until 5 years ago, secrecy was the most important form of protection for the business. Gradually, as they received more attention in the media and from customers and competitors both nationally and internationally, they nevertheless saw a need to attach professional expertise that could guide them in important decisions. They therefore entered into a partnership with Leogriff and Selmer law firm. They contributed with help for appropriate IP strategy and general legal questions. This collaboration means that Attensi makes good decisions and feels well taken care of in these areas.

– Attensi has a strategy to become a global player in simulation-based training. It was therefore important to have trademark registration in the domains we envisage operating in, so that we do not get into any kind of dispute in the future - especially when we enter new markets. As of today, we have chosen not to apply for a patent. A little depending on how the market develops going forward, we may reassess this in a couple of our core technical areas.

Public support

In the first few years after establishment, they received good support from the pharmaceutical apparatus, especially from Innovation Norway and gradually also the Research Council of Norway. They have had innovation contracts with Innovation Norway and participated in several projects and programs with the Research Council, both the User-Controlled Research Arena, the BIA and the Lighthouse Project (large interdisciplinary research and innovation projects that will contribute to solving important societal challenges).

"This is a very important project for us and contributes to important research and development of new technology that we would not have had the funding to develop on our own. It is especially within new fields such as virtual reality, sensor management, speech recognition etc. that these tools have been critical for us", says Anne Lise Wahl.

Jesperpus has its own trademark

It is not just the fur that needs to be groomed and the area that needs to be taken care of. When your name is Jesperpus and you have your own company, you also have to protect your rights. Not only against the neighboring cats, but also against much bigger threats far outside the cats' territory.
